Hi there! I'm Ted Goas and this is my site. I'm a 30 year old designer and developer living in northern New Jersey with my wife, Sara (below). I'm happiest when creating something that gets the job done in the most efficient way possible. I am fluent in both Mac and Windows (PC), am hoping someone invents a lawn that mows itself, own the world's smallest large screen TV.
As a website and interface designer, my experience ranges from the agency world to the Fortune 500 atmosphere. I also work with individuals and small businesses to create an effective online presence. For a designer, I spend a lot of time looking at numbers (usually in the form of analytics). I am most comfortable working on the web.
Sara and Myself
Background
I was born and raised in northeastern New Jersey. I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. School taught me how to use a computer and I've been playing on them ever since.
After 25 years in the New Jersey metro area, Sara and I moved to a Tempe, Arizona to pursue a graduate degree in technology management. Despite thoroughly enjoying our time in Arizona, we realized our desire to settle in the northeast. After completing our degrees and working for a year or two Sara and I moved back to New Jersey, bought a house, and dug in our heels.
Web Design Experience
I hope you already have some idea of what I do for a living. My professional work experience has given me the opportunity to work with a varying list of clients in the areas of design, photography and videography. I've worked with:
- Computer giants such as Microsoft, HP, Xerox, Adobe, IBM, Toshiba, and more.
- Musicians from Queens of the Stone Age, Jane's Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Santana, Sting, Dream Theatre, and Whitney Houston.
- Higher education organizations such as University of Phoenix, University of Arizona, DeVry and UAT.
- Other organizations like Red Bull, NASA, and Avenue.
Most recently I was the lead web designer at CUnet in Paramus, New Jersey. If you're looking for a more professional bio, please visit my LinkedIn profile or my resume.
Career Vision
I love the field of web production, usability, design and development. My recent positions enabled me to take on leadership and management roles. My long-term objective is to obtain a senior or management position in the field which uses my skill and experience as a designer, developer, and project & staff manager.
Although my experience may suggest that I jump around from job to job, I would love nothing more than to settle down with a great company. I assure you that I'm not a flight-risk!
Off The Clock
I won't lie! I spend a lot of time in front of computers outside of work too. I subscribe to dozens of online news and design RSS feeds.
I don't spend my entire life in front of screens. I like to unplug quite often. I enjoy reading offline and love taking in the occasional concert. I do my best to play and follow sports (namely hockey, soccer, and football). We recently purchased a house in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey and the house has become a hobby. Sara and I also enjoy the 'dinner and a movie' night out (or night in).
Where Else I Hang
I have profiles on Facebook and MySpace, but spend much more time on sites like LinkedIn, Mog, and Shelfari.
I don't save many photos, but I keep the ones I do on Picassa (though some are still on Flickr and this site). I was sorry to see Ma.gnolia go and have since migrated my online bookmarks over to Diigo.
I sometimes write over at Skeptical Monkey with Sara. I'm more of a reader and researcher when it comes to design articles and blogs, but I have written a few professional pieces including a graduate thesis on eBooks. You may also chat with MyCyberTwin, though I hear he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.
